Michigan Ice Storm Time Line. When rain falls, freezes

Southwest Michigan will be the first part of the state to experience freezing of rain conditions on Wednesday, but a winter storm moving east will eventually affect much of southern Michigan.

National Weather Service Northern Indiana Office, which covers Southwest Michigan, said that freezing rain will begin south of us 30 – which runs southeast from south of Gary, Indiana, through Fort Wayne, Indiana and then into Ohio – at. 18 Wednesday.

In southwestern Michigan, freezing rain should begin at 1 p.m. 19 Wednesday, NWS said and continues until around 1 p.m. 9 Thursday.

When the storm spreads northeast, freezing rain will be more widespread at. 21, as it “continues to move north through the night.”

In southwestern Michigan, the storm leaves approx. 0.1 inch in the lower level of counties.

“The commuting Thursday morning is likely to be affected,” NWS said.

To the east, the southern level of Michigan counties could see up to 0.2 of an empty rain along the Ohio border and smaller amounts further north.

The Grand Rapids NWS office said freezing rain could start between 7 p.m. 20 Wednesday night and 7 p.m. 2 Thursday and tense between 7 p.m. 4 and 8 Thursday.

Isaccumes over Michigan – from Grand Rapids, through Lansing and Flint towards Port Huron – will probably be as low as 0.01 inch, NWS said. Wind is expected to gather overnight and reach 15 km / h to 25 km / h.

The Detroit NWS office said a winter mix will adjust after 10 p.m. 22 Wednesday and continue until around 7 p.m. 9 Thursday. It begins with light snow and turns to gossip and freezes rain.

Southeast Michigan could look up to a tenth of an empty accumulation.

“A winter weather counseling is in effect from 22 (Wednesday) until the Ohio border to up to 0.15 inches,” the Detroit Office said.

To the north, the Gaylord calls the NWS office to “light” wintry mixing, which switches to lake effect snow on Thursday.

On the big lakes, NWS said a carving watch is in effect at Lake Huron from Thursday to Friday with the settlement of up to 40 knots and waves up to 20 meters possible. Lakes Michigan and Superior are under Gale warnings.

As the storm passes to the east, temperatures over Michigan are expected to rise into the 30s and melt any accumulation of ice, NWS said.
